The TC's office is the repository of all information pertaining to government, the public, and land use. For instance, it holds information about public hearings, ordinances, regulations, contracts, RFPs, as well as birth and marriage certificates, and also zoning maps, land use, and variances. My goal is to transform the Town Clerk's office from a place where the information is passively held, to a thriving hub where information is connected and integrated with information at other places in government (social services, educational research, taxes) and make it readily available to government officials, as well as to the public in order to expedite decision making by the government and the public. The question of cost first needs to include the savings derived from more efficient and effective decision making. Furthermore, the implementation can be cost-effective by focusing first on existing information already available at various separate governmental offices, In addition, by cooperating with universities, the innovation initiatives, the library, and other private and public entities, the cost to the public can be limited. Moreover, one has to consider the cost deferred from making incomplete and possibly faulty or disastrous decisions due to limited information.
One key function of the Town Clerk's Office is to safeguard the integrity of the voting process, as it pertains to the absentee ballot process. Currently, the Town Clerk's office is the subject of a criminal investigation by the State's attorney.
As noted above, land parcel records is another key function of this office.
Maintaining the emographic data records is a third key role of the Town Clerk.
During my recent term on the Parks and Recreation Commission I gathered essential information about the workings of city government. My background in academia, combined with experience as a small business owner supervising a diverse staff of 80 persons comes to bear on adeptly managing the Town Clerk's Office. My role in the community includes participation in various political organizations and campaigns, hosting and organizing numerous environmental and cultural events, and being an active participant in community and neighborhood associations.
