If elected, my top priority is to see that every citizen in my district will realize an improved quality of life and find Stamford to be more affordable, enjoyable, and equitable. From renters to homeowners, children to retirees, students to the working class, all have issues that need to be addressed. It will be my job to tackle each and every one with the best of my ability. Problems of tax increases, zoning violations (illegal dwellings), traffic, road maintenance, parking all tend to be seen as secondary to an irresponsible uptrend in unaffordable residential developments. District 4, as with other districts and neighborhoods in Stamford have been largely ignored and need a representative who will fight for their best interests.
If elected I plan to hold office hours and allow citizens to "walk-in" and meet with me. I have a vision to empower volunteers to create an ad-hoc committee that will be used to discuss issues pertinent to District 4. I plan to be responsive to e-mails and phone calls and attend neighborhood association meetings and events regularly.
I am a social worker and registered nurse who has worked in Stamford as a psychiatric social worker for almost 20 years. I work closely with the indigent, homeless, mentally ill, and those with substance use disorders who live in our community. I worked with the mobile crisis team to respond to psychiatric emergencies that occurred in both private homes and public places all across the city. I have trained the Stamford Police in handling "citizens with special needs" to improve and insure safer outcomes in calls involving the mentally ill. I have been a union delegate for SEIU District 1199 for over a decade. I am on the advisory board for Stamford AIC (Alternatives in the Community) I hosted the "Stamford Against Hate" vigil following the tragic event that occurred in Charlottesvile, N.C. I have volunteered my time to agencies such as Laurel House, New Covenant House of Hospitality, and Scofield Manor.
