If elected, my focus would be our taxes, but not fixated on the mill rate itself. Instead, the focus would be an overarching concern surrounding how the tax dollars are spent. Each year our residents are hit with increases on their taxes (12% in the past four years), yet the services do not seem to improve, in fact, our services have been reduced.
Our schools need help in order to ensure that our city will attract families in the future that will add to our tax revenue rather than the ever-growing rental community. Without great schools, and only a commuter population that comes into Stamford for work, our tax base will continue to shrink while the abuse on our infrastructure will still to rise.
As a lifelong Stamford resident I understood what the city has to offer and how great of a place it is to grow up so I chose to purchase a home and stay here to raise my young family. It will be my goal to make sure we not only keep our lifelong residents, but the city can also be a first choice for families moving to the area.
The only way we are going to be able to accomplish that goal is to keep: - Taxes reasonable - Spending under control - Our education system top tier - Infrastructure properly maintained
We cannot kick the can down the road any longer, the time is now and I am the candidate that will fight for you.
If I am fortunate enough to be elected to represent the 18th District, I will operate under my belief that the district representative needs to be accessible to all residents of the community.
Just as when I represented the 7th District I would make a point to attended any local organization meetings to keep the community in the loop, work directly with my counterpart, regardless of their party (my counterpart in the 7th was Democrat Jay Fountain, current Director of OPM), to ensure both representatives were aware of any resident concerns or progress on issues, so that both of us are prepared to accurately and timely answer any questions our residents may need updates on. It is not only important to be accessible, but we need to be able to properly and effectively assist on issues and concerns, which the plan above has done effectively for me in the past.
The representatives need to make sure the constituents are aware of any issues that may impact their lives, where the constituents can receive more information on those issue, or where their voice can be heard so that each resident has a say in their city and what happens within the government. I would make sure that local groups, media sources and my public webpage would be updated constantly with links to the most relative information for constituents to know what the city government is up to on their behalf.
