Traffic, bad roads, inadequate parking, development, increasing property taxes, and quality-of-life are the concerns in my district. My top priority is to advocate for these concerns and interests of the people of our community. While canvassing extensively during primaries, frequent complaints were about increasing traffic congestion. This problem will be magnified once the new residential developments on Southfield Ave are completed and occupied.
The city is working on installing roundabout to alleviate some of the traffic but we will need other solutions. The first is to prevent additional developments in our community before our infrastructure can be adequately addressed. Another major concern is rising property taxes.
I had residents ask me why is it that their property assesment value is going down while their taxes are going up? Large residential developers get tax breaks, so while the city does not collect on them it has to collect more from regular homeowners year after year. My priority will be to vote in the interest of my constituents.
Many of the residents are rightfully frustrated that they are not sufficiently and timely informed of the development projects and
city-wide decisions that will ultimately affect their neigbourhood. Besides being available over the phone, email or in neigbourhood meetings, i would like to utilize Reform Stamford's website as an information hub for my district and city-wide, posting pertinent information for the residents' awareness in time to have an impact on decisions.
The 2016 Presidential primary took me by surprise as it has ignited my passion and interest in our national politics and issues that face every day people. I decided to volunteer for Bernie Sanders because a leader should be loving, caring and dedicated to the best interests of those he represents. I went to four different states and called all over the country speaking with voters.
Bernie's message about regular people getting involed in their local politics inpired me.
I had already been working with a community of passionate people, some of whom are my current runing mates, so I decided to run on the Reform Stamford slate.
I have spent a lot of time researching the issues facing my community. By attending zoning board meetings, city commitee meetings, public hearings and meeting with current and past city officials I have a better understanding of the issues facing my district.
