I support any measure that encourages and facilitates voter participation as long as the privacy and sanctity of each vote is protected. Eliminating hurdles for voting by absentee ballot would help increase voter turnout/participation in this day and age of overburdened schedules, travel for business, and job commitments.
My priorities reflect the concerns of my constituents in Stamford and Greenwich: lower and more predictable taxes; job creation; and preservation and protection of the environment and open space.
I support the Constitutional amendment initiative which is on the ballot as Question #1. However, I would have preferred to see language included that assured that funds could not be diverted to other uses before being placed in the lockbox. In any event, the ballot initiative is a statement that we need funds to rehabilitate our degraded infrastructure and to improve mass transportation, and funds collected for transportation should be used for transportation and not raided for other purposes.
We must embrace some common sense to bring our spending and borrowing under control. Spend no more than you make. Borrow only what you can afford to pay back. If it's not broken, don't fix it ... and if it's not working, get rid of it. The more government tries to do, the less it does well. And, we should have all the government we need, but only the government we need.
