Yes, I support early voting in Connecticut. As House Chairman of the Government Administration and Elections Committee I was the lead proponent in the House of the early voting proposal this past legislative session. I believe that some of the primary factors to be considered when examining early voting opportunities are that we ensure the privacy and sanctity of each vote while finding ways to encourage increased voter participation.
My top three priorities will be: 1) focusing on bi-partisan responsible solutions to address the financial future of our state including workforce development, transportation infrastructure spending and educational funding as all are tied directly to Connecticut’s future; 2) pursuing legislation that will promote and support middle class families; and 3) maintaining excellent constituent service and outreach and addressing the needs of our immediate community.
I fully support the Special Transportation Fund ballot initiative to create a lockbox of dedicated funds for transportation. Preserving, maintaining and improving our transportation infrastructure is a key driver in growing and expanding our state’s economy. As such, funds dedicated to this purpose should be used solely for this purpose.
There are going to be some very difficult decisions to be made by the next General Assembly primarily having to do with the state’s finances. If elected, I am committed to working in a bi-partisan manner when making these difficult decisions. We will need to focus on job growth and job training as a means to closing the deficit and examine our state’s spending practices so that we are spending within our means while avoiding cuts to programs and services that are important to our constituents.
