The strength that I bring to this role is that I am living the same life daily as all of District 147 residents. I know what it feels like to struggle to pay bills, to have to put a roof over my child's head and have food on the table. My unique perspective is that I have lived in the district going on 15yrs, my daughter was born here and raised here. I want to help our district residents live a better life.
We must bring down the energy cost in our state. Whatever I can do to eliminate the public benefit fee from our electric bills I will do. We have people on fixed incomes who can't pay and extra $100-$200 a month on their electric bills. We need an immediate solution now, the bickering in Hartford over who is at fault isn't helping our resident's, I want to help the school system in my District, our schools in Stamford aren't ranked high in the state and that needs to change. We need to offer better wages to our teachers and more benefits, so we get the best and brightest teaching our students.
The state shouldn't impose its will on the people of Stamford. If the people vote to increase housing, then it should be done and if they vote not to then the state should not but in. The state often over rules the will of the people and that's something that shouldn't happen. The state should support Stamford in these endeavors and not dictate to the city what will be done.
We must look into every possible avenue to bring down these public benefit fees. We must stop letting residents not pay their bills dating back to the start of Covid in 2020. It's extremely unfair to ask taxpayers to foot the bill for other residents. We must secure a natural gas supply for the state, use existing pipelines build new pipelines. let's use left over Covid funds to pay down the debts we have incurred from Covid related nonpayment. All options must be on the table to secure the future of our children.
